The Morrígan, also known as Morrígu, is a shape-shifting goddess portrayed in Irish mythology. The name is Mór-Ríoghain in Modern Irish, and it has been translated as "great queen" or "phantom queen" and she is primarily associated with war/fate/death. Though the realm of her influence may seem ghoulish, she loved deeply. When her attentions upon a particular hero were violently spurned, leaving her broken and blind, she used her shape-shifting gifts to trick the same hero into blessing her – thus healing her.
